Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS) is planning to hold a One-month Fieldbased Training Programme on Participatory Watershed Management and Sustainable Agriculture at Baba Amte Centre for People’s Empowerment, Neemkheda, Bagli. This field-based training is being sponsored by the Masters Programme on Water Science and Policy (WSP) at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi.

The Certificate program is being conducted as part of Semester 3 of the WSP Programme.

The main aim of this training programme is to create a critical mass of water professionals with multi-disciplinary perspective and understanding of water. The Certificate Program offers a unique opportunity to professionals already engaged in the water sector to build their capacity and expand the horizons of their knowledge and practice.

In this module, the students get a first-hand exposure to field experiences of watershed management. They get to understand the need for watershed management, the ridge-to-valley approach and participatory planning methods used, the details of watershed structures constructed as well as the social issues that arise during implementation. The students will get to understand both the supply-side (water conservation and storage) and the demand-side (water use in agriculture) aspects of watersheds, the rationale of watershed structures, their location, design, construction and maintenance aspects.

They will get hand-on experience in developing watershed treatment plans, integrating demand-side and supply- side aspects, with costing and physical and financial planning.

The module is prepared with the objective that the students become fully capable of implementing and managing integrated watershed development projects on their own.

The 30 day module is divided into two modules of equal duration (15 days each), covering Participatory Watershed Management and Sustainable Agriculture respectively.

Those interested can apply for the entire programme of 30 days or for any one of the 15 day sub-modules and pay accordingly. The Training fee for the programme is Rs. 1000 per person per day which includes all expenses except travel to and from the Baba Amte Centre.
